Start Times and Course Notes
Start Times
Start times are posted here.
We have tried to cater for all requests, especially where shadowing or minding children is concerned, but the start windows are not too large so hopefully all is well. It is difficult to make changes at this point, so please, no frivolous requests for changes.
We still need some people's SI numbers. Please make sure you fix things at registration, and we'll rent you an SI if needed.
Please note that with approximately 100 competitors, we cannot accommodate on-the-fly adjustments to the start times, so the clock starts running for you at your posted time. If you're late to the line, you get the extra time as a bonus.
Course Notes
Directions to/from the parking to the start/finish of each race are available in this document. It's in MS Word format only so hopefully you can deal with it. We'll try to print a few copies for distribution at the event, but routes will be marked in some way on the day.
Following are some brief notes and images from the course setters. Clicking on an image will fetch a larger copy.
Medium Course
This area has everything from fast open woods, thick woods, and even dense raspberry patches (though you won't be distracted by any berries at this time of the year), with various degrees of visibility. From a mapper's perspective, it's been a challenge to represent the various degrees of thickness. We hope we achieved that. Additionally, a network of trails throughout the terrain (which includes both subtle contours and steep hills) offers good runnability.
Sprint Course
Situated along the Saugeen River, the sprint area includes a mix of open areas, some runnable woods, and a fair network of trails. The forest cover on a significant hill contains areas where the green and runnable woods blend rather indistinctly, and exposed rough rock appears in places, making for an interesting yet fast sprint area.
Long Course
The long course contains a mixture of open land, runnable to dense forest, and lots of marshes and lakes. Route choice around the wet areas will be crucial, with some long legs designed specifically with that in mind. There are many trails, but not all going where one would hope. Some forested areas are technically demanding, requiring close attention to contours, as changes in vegetation can be too subtle for the map to be reliable (especially with leaves now starting to fall). In all, a varied and interesting area, with lots of challenges.
